On January 7th, 2021 we said goodbye to our best buddy and sweetest friend. Rascal was a part of our family for 12 of his 16 years. My daughters saved all of their birthday money when they turned 9 and 7 for a dog. The day we rescued him from the Dumb Friends League on December 6, 2008, I realized we needed him as much as he needed us. Rascie was the first dog any of us had ever owned. I was actually scared of dogs growing up and never had one as a family pet. Rascie taught me how to be a dog owner, dog person, and turned me into a dog lover.

Rascal lived up to his name. From eating whole pizzas and bowls of Halloween candy by himself, to chewing through seatbelts in my Jetta (twice), to chewing my brothers’ super expensive leather boots, to learning how to open garage doors with his best friend Zeus, he kept us on our toes in his younger years and he kept the local animal ED’s in business.

But he grew old and sick and tired and we had no choice but to give him one last heart wrenching act of love. Thanks to Caring Pathways and Dr. Lori, he was surrounded by his family and his little doggie brother Walt at home as his soul peacefully made its way to doggie heaven.

We will miss walks with Rascal in Cottonwood Park, how excited he always was when we got home and most importantly his unconditional love and companionship. We are still finding his hair all over the house no matter how much we vacuum. There will forever be a void in our family from his loss. Rascal, you will always be our number one. We will see you on the Rainbow Bridge.
