On the cold night of February 7, 2008 I arrived to a country home in Combine, TX to pick up the only male in a litter of 6 Blue Heelers at 6 weeks old. As I sat in the floor surrounded by these 6 pups I watched the one I came for lazily sit, scratch and stare blankly across the room. I couldn’t help but notice the runt of the litter jumping around and nipping at her brother and sisters and I decided in that moment I had to have her too! Little did I know at the time, I had brought home two polar opposites and named them Lola and Eli. Lola, full of spark and personality and always ready to play ball, was the alfa of our household down to the day she died. One of the smartest dogs I have ever know it only took her 5 attempts to learn a new skill and she tested me every day. As she aged over the years it became clear she was aging faster than her brother but she never let go of her alfa status. She refused to be left behind until the morning of December 12th, 2022 when she had what Dr Mindy suspected to be a splenic tumor rupture. As she lay in her bed bleeding internally Dr Mindy arrived and we allowed her to surrender. A piece of me broke that day but I carry on with her life and litter mate, Eli by my side. If I could have one more day with her I would take her to the park and let her play until she fell over, giver her all the treats she could stand, lay with her, tell her how much I love her , kiss her Bentley mark and let her know she was the best girl a daddy could have. Always living in my soul, I love you Lola!
